Ontario allows some countries’ driver licence to be directly exchanged, however some require a translation.

Ontario Provisions for Foreign Licences
Note to rental:
If you are a new immigrant, and have a valid driver's licence in other countries (China's driver licence needs to secure the province's approved translation), from the date of landing in Ontario you can drive a car up to 60 days. If after 60 days you still want to continue driving, you must apply for a driver licence in Ontario. Driver licences from other Canadian provinces can be directly exchanged into an Ontario driver licence. Also, according to the law, driver licences from the United States, Japan, Britain, South Korea, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan (just to name a few) and certain other countries can be eligible for a direct exchange into an Ontario driver license. If you are visiting (tourism, visiting relatives, study, refugees, etc.), within three months, other countries’ or provinces’ driver licence will be sufficient to drive in Ontario (China's driver licence requires security check). If you're visiting for more than three months, and you still want to continue driving, you will need an Ontario driver licence.
Note for Foreign Exchange Credits:
If you hold two or more years of driving experience in a foreign country, and are not eligible for a direct exchange to an Ontario driver licence, you will need your licence to be translated (if it is not in English) and a letter from the embassy. After obtaining the G1 you can be eligible for a one-time chance to take the G road test immediately. If you fail your G road test you are not eligible to take the G road test again until you pass the G2 road test (which you can take 10 days after). After you pass your G2 road test you will be eligible to take the G road test without the standard one year waiting period.
If you have you been driving more than one year but less than two years in a foreign country, and are not eligible for a direct exchange to an Ontario driver licence, you will need your licence to be translated (if it is not in English) and a letter from the embassy. You will be eligible to take the G2 road test immediately, but will need to wait a year before taking the G road test.
If your driving experience in a foreign country is within six-twelve months but less than one year, according to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, only six months may be deducted from the wait time of eight months before you are eligible for the G2 road test (given that the student is to participate in a Beginner Driver Education (BDE) program which will reduce the wait time from one year to eight months).
