For the G1 written test, you need to provide two official identification documents.
- For non-residents with valid visas in their passports, providing the passport is sufficient. Besides the passport, the following are also acceptable: study permit (IMM 1442), work permit (IMM 1442), visitor record (IMM 1442), temporary resident permit (IMM 1442), refugee status document (IMM 1434), refugee application confirmation with photo (IMM 7703), immigration status document with photo (IMM 1442), photo identification issued by Ontario.
- For Canadian citizens, besides the passport, photo identification such as Canadian citizenship card or photo identification issued by Ontario is also acceptable.
- For Permanent residents, besides the passport, photo identification such as permanent resident card (Maple Leaf card), landing paper (IMM 1000), permanent resident confirmation form (IMM 5292), or photo identification issued by Ontario is also acceptable.
The fee for each written test is $16. If you fail, you can retake the test, but you'll need to pay the fee again. Additionally, the government fee for a 5-year license is $90.00. Normally, during the written test, you'll also need to pay the government fee for the G2 road test, which is $53.75, making the total cost $159.75.
For applicants who are eligible to skip the G level, the government fee for the road test is determined at the time of booking based on the appointment requirements. The fee for the G road test is $91.25. G1 written test services are provided by SERVICE ONTARIO at 777 Bay St in downtown Toronto, and they do not collect the road test fee in advance.

The DriveTest center does not require appointments for candidates without driving experience from other countries; they can choose to walk in for the G1 test.
According to the latest regulations of the DriveTest center, if candidates need to submit driving experience documents from other countries for review by the DriveTest center, they must make an appointment for the written test service in advance to avoid waiting in line.
