Where can I obtain a drivers abstract?

Drivers abstract are typically issued by the vehicle management department in your home country. If you are overseas, you can authorize someone to handle the process on your behalf at the vehicle management department. Some clients download documents from online platforms, but there's a risk that electronically obtained driving experience certification letters may not be recognized.

What format of drivers abstract will be accepted?

Different provinces have different formats for driving experience certification letters, and to be recognized, the letter must meet the following criteria:

  1. It must be an original document, meaning it should bear the original seal or stamp;
  2. Apart from the driver's basic information, it should include the date of issuance of the driver's license, the expiry date, and while not always mandatory, a record of the driver's safe driving history;
  3. The drivers abstract should also indicate the date of issuance, and its validity period is typically six months. Once accepted, it will be permanently filed, and there's no need to provide it again.

Please note that electronically downloaded versions of the drivers abstract from inquiry platforms may not be accepted. Providing the original document significantly increases its acceptance probability.

These suggestions are for reference only; we do not guarantee the acceptance of original documents, as the final decision lies with the Drive Test center.

How is the translation certification fee charged?

The translation certification fee for driver's license is $36.80 before tax, and for the driving experience certificate, it is $45.80 before tax.

The Ontario government website stipulates that recognized overseas driving experience requires the original Driver Information Letter issued by the licensing authority in the country of origin.

Do I still need to translate my driver's license into English?

Most of our clients come from mainland China and Hong Kong. Chinese driver's licenses require ATIO translation certification, while Hong Kong driver's licenses do not.

For driver's licenses from other countries, whether certification is required can be checked on the official website of the Government of Ontario.

You can search for "Exchange an out-of-province driver’s licence" on the Ontario government's official website for detailed information: https://www.ontario.ca/page/exchange-out-province-drivers-licence

How many years of driving experience do I need before I can skip the G1 and take the G test?

If your Chinese driving experience is over two years and you provide the original letter of certification from the issuing authority confirming your driving experience, along with a valid driver's license and ATIO translation certification document, you will be eligible for one opportunity to skip the G1 Test and proceed directly to the G level.

Do I need to provide the original documents for translation certification?

No, you don't need to. You can simply upload clear images to process it online. The official website supports JPG, JPEG, and PNG formats.

Can I use only the translated driver abstract to prove my driving experience?

During the G1 written test, it is advisable to proactively present the original driver's license from the country of origin, the original driver abstract, as well as the ATIO translation certification document. Only presenting the driver abstract may not suffice. For further details, please consult the examination center, and rely on official responses for accuracy.

Do I need to present the original license or drivers abstract during the written test?

Yes, only the original document is officially recognized.

Can the waiting period for the road test be shortened if the probationary period is not completed?

Some staff members approves the driving experience from the end of the probationary period. The simplest solution is to change to another Drive Test center and resubmit.

Can ATIO translation certification be used in other provinces or countries?

Our translator is a member of the ATIO (Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario), which is officially recognized in Ontario.

To ensure the validity of your documents, please consult with local authorities if you intend to use them in a different province or country.

Can a Chinese driver with less than one year of driving experience be exempted from the waiting period for the G2 road test?

After translating and certifying a Chinese driver's license with less than one year of driving experience, the waiting period for the road test can be shortened based on the actual driving experience.

Beginner Drive Education Course(BDE) certificate can further reduce the waiting period by 4 months. Both reductions can be combined to shorten the waiting period for the G2 road test. For more details, please inquire at the Drive Test center.

Are your translation documents notarized?

Our translation documents are ATIO translation certifications officially recognized by the province of Ontario and accepted by the DriveTest Centers. Driver's license translation certification does not require notarization, as notarization is performed by lawyers or Ontario notaries and is not recognized by DriveTest Centers.

When do I need to take the written test after obtaining the translation?

The validity period of the driver abstract document is 6 months, once submitted to Drive Test center and approved, there is no need to pay attention to the validity period of the original and translated documents.

For the G1 to G transition, you have a 5-years time to complete it. There isn't a specific time limit for obtaining the G2, but it's advisable to schedule it within the validity period of the G1.
